Dust Mites In Your Bed Are Making You Sick, Kill Them With This Simple Solution

Dust Mites

Dust mites are small bugs which live in carpets, beds, and all kinds of upholstered furniture, feed on dead skin cells, and may lead to allergies, skin reactions, or asthma-related issues. Since it has been found that 4 out of 5 American homes are affected by dust mite infestation, you definitely need to know how to fight this tiny trouble maker.

Some people may not even aware that their home already be a place for dust mite infestation. If you have dust mite infestation in your home, you may notice symptoms like sneezing, itchy nose, throat, or roof of the mouth, runny nose, cough, red, itchy, or watery eyes, congestion, facial pressure or pain, and swollen, and blue skin located under the eyes.

Dust mites will be effectively kept at bay by regular vacuuming and washing sheets, but the mattresses and pillows also contain them, so you should also clean them as well. If the vacuum you use does not include a HEPA filter, the mites will actually return to the mattresses and pillows again.

One great way to kill and repel dust mites is to spray them with an eucalyptus oil solution.

Unfortunately, eucalyptus essential oil is not safe for children under the age of 10. However, there are other oils that are safe and will also remove dust mites, such as clove and fennel essential oils, and they are safe for use with children over the age of 2.

This is how to prepare the eucalyptus dust mite-killing solution:

Ingredients:

  • 15-30 drops eucalyptus oil
  • 2 cups distilled water

Instructions:

Spray the solution on all areas which cannot be easily washed in the bedroom, and then hang them to dry in a dry and warm place, as the growth of mold spores is boosted in humid places. Do this three times a week to eliminate dust mites completely.

Dust mite infestations are efficiently destroyed by essential oils, especially eucalyptus oil, as shown in multiple studies.

Yet, you should know that this essential oil is not safe for children younger than 10, so you should use some other safe alternatives in this case, like fennel or clove essential oils.
