This is What Happens to Your Body 10 Hours After Putting on Nail Polish

Nail Polish

Most women like to paint their nails, but unfortunately this habit is not as harmless as it sounds. Research by Duke University has revealed that many brands of American nail polishes are dangerous to health.

The study was done with women who used different types of polish and the findings were impressive. All of them showed signs of triphenyl phosphate in the blood, 10 hours after the nail polish.

And the worst: this substance was found in the body of all of them in a quantity seven times above the value that would be considered normal!

If you do not know, experts believe that this compound, which is also known as TPHP, can affect the endocrine system (hormones, metabolism, reproduction and development). The chemistry present in the enamels is so strong that many companies prefer or even disclose the ingredients on the labels.

TPHP is a neurotoxin, a highly toxic substance that can harm the brain, It can also cause hormonal imbalance and thus be responsible for weight gain.

In addition to TPHP, marketed enamels may contain:

  • Formaldehyde:

This is a carcinogen that can dissolve in water and air. That’s why the product smells strongly. Exposure to this product can cause throat problems, asthma and breathing difficulties. In addition, it causes intoxication and chronic diseases.

  • Toluene:

This chemical hinders the development of children and can even contaminate breast milk, as well as damage the skin after exposure and damage our central nervous system.

  • Dibutyl phthalate:

Some brands replace PHHP with phthalate, but this does not solve the problem because the symptoms they cause are similar, such as hormonal disturbance and problems in the reproductive system.

In the United States, there are some brands of natural nail polishes, made with water or with argan oil, without the presence of formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, mercury and other toxic substances.

The solution may be you to try and make your own nail polish with the homemade recipe below:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (olive oil serves to strengthen nails and protect cuticles)
  • Half spoon (soup) of clay bank powder
  • Natural Henna powder (the color you want, sold in pharmacies or in stores for natural products)

Method of preparation:

  • Mix the olive oil and the powdered clay until a homogeneous mass is obtained.
  • When it is well stirred, add a little natural henna and stir until the paste is smooth.
  • Place the mixture into a nail polish container and try it on the nails.
  • The paint should dry in ten minutes and you can apply top coat if you want.

And remember before buying nail polish pay attention to the ingredients.

Some nail polish packages and bottles have special markings:

  • “5-Free“ means that the product doesn’t contain formaldehyde, its derivative resins (formaldehyde resins), toluene, dibutyl phthalates, or camphor.
  • ”3-Free” means that the polish is free of just three of the harmful components: formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, and toluene.
