Lemon water does not directly contribute to losing belly fat.  Here are the main reasons why lemon water is beneficial on an empty stomach in the morning:

Drinking water with lemon, or even apple cider vinegar will increase the levels of stomach acid, which will improve the digestion and breakdown of the food that you eat. Many people have low stomach acid due to diet and lifestyle factors, and this leads to indigestion, gas and bloating.  By drinking lemon water, apple cider vinegar and water, or taking HCL supplements, you are replacing the acid in the your stomach and allowing better digestion and assimilation of nutrients.

Bile is a digestive fluid that helps break down fat in the stomach.  Bitter flavors, like lemon, help the production and release of bile from the gallbladder.  So, lemon water before a high-fat meal may be beneficial in terms of digestion and absorption.

Digestion and absorption are very important when it comes to health, however it would be far fetched to say that digestion and absorption cause you to lose belly fat.  Perhaps improving digestion and absorption caused loss of belly fat indirectly, and in a very specific case. However, you cannot make that claim for the general population.

The Lemon Diet

Monday

Drink lemon juice diluted in lukewarm water throughout the whole day. If you want it sweeter, you can sweeten it with stevia only.

For lunch and dinner, you can eat cooked vegetables, like chards, spinach, turnips, carrots, pumpkin, and zucchini. You cannot eat potatoes.

Tuesday

For breakfast and a snack:

  • Tea with lemon, sweetened with stevia
  • At mid-morning or afternoon, an orange or grapefruit

For lunch:

  • Two glasses of lemon juice diluted in lukewarm water
  • A big plate of carrot salad
  • Tomatoes and watercress
  • Two slices of pineapple

For dinner:

  • Two glass of lemon juice diluted in lukewarm water
  • A medium sized plate of brown rice with a hard-boiled egg
  • A pear

Wednesday

For breakfast and a snack:

  • Tea with lemon, sweetened with stevia

At mid-morning/afternoon:

  • An orange or grapefruit

For lunch:

  • Two glasses of lemon water diluted in lukewarm water
  • Grilled chicken breast with lemon
  • Tomato slices with a little bit of salt and olive oil
  • An apple

For dinner:

  • Two glasses of lemon water diluted in lukewarm water
  • A serving of pumpkin purée
  • Lettuce and tomato salad
  • Ten to fifteen strawberries

Thursday

For breakfast and a snack:

  • Tea with lemon, sweetened with stevia

At mid-morning/afternoon:

  • An orange or grapefruit

For lunch:

  • Two glasses of lemon juice diluted in lukewarm water
  • A serving of grilled fish with lemon
  • Eggplant salad
  • Two slices of pineapple

For dinner:

  • Two glasses of lemon juice diluted in water
  • Zucchini stuffed with brown rice and cheese
  • Carrot purée
  • A pear

Friday

For breakfast and a snack:

  • Tea with lemon, sweetened with stevia

At mid-morning/afternoon:

  • An orange or grapefruit

For lunch:

  • Two glasses of lemon juice diluted in lukewarm water
  • A serving of beef
  • A salad
  • Tomato and cucumber
  • An apple

For dinner:

  • Two glasses of lemon juice diluted in lukewarm water
  • A serving of baked, skinless chicken
  • Grilled spinach
  • Two slices of melon

Don’t forget that you can drink all the lemon juice you want, but it should be diluted in lukewarm water. They recommend drinking six to eight glasses a day of this mixture. Also, you should keep in mind that you should eat what we have recommended so that you get the results that you want from this diet.

It’s important to remember that, besides following this diet, it is necessary to change your habits afterwards and start to exercise more regularly (even if it’s just walking for 30 minutes a day).
